Strength properties

Hallo,

I would like to calibreate the software RF based on a real laminate test (for E-Glass with several resins).

In the Materials (eLamX Explorer window), each of the Micromechanical material has its "Strength properties". Therefore:
1. Is it the Strength of a simple UD tape with resin?
2. The "SC", so called shear strength, is an:
- interlaminar shear strength or
- plane shear strength or
- out of plane shear strength?

For a miromechanic material the strength values are the values of the layer, so a simple UD layer.

2. The "SC", so called shear strength, is the:
plane shear strength

In-Plane shear test by tensile test of a ±45° Laminate, would be the right one?

According to the tests below:

Hallo,

I know, that this is a simple and common way of getting an idea of the values for the shear modulus. But in my humble opinion, you have to perform a real shear test with some kind of shear frame. A shear load is a multiaxial load. So it is impossible to get the right values with a simple tensile test.

I have the last thing to clarify. Lets assume pure in plane tension. When I build up a simple stacking -45/90/45/0 (same material used for each layer), in the Enginering Constants I get (with Poissons) different stiffness values in longitudinal and transverse direction. Ex=16000, Ey=9300.

Simillar confusion is when I create -45/90/45/0/0/45/90/-45 and 0/45/90/-45/-45/90/45/0. In the first case Ex=10000, Ey=18500. In the second case Ex=27000, Ey=12000.

Could you please shortly explain the ground of that behaviour? It might be basics i have overlooked, but its better to ask.

Hi,

that's quite strange. Is the thickness of each layer the same?

In every case I tried I got the same values for Ex and Ey.

Could you send me an example eLamX file?
